Rose Fairy Crowns

These are royally fun!

Last month was my birthday, and my hubby got me rainbow roses as a gift. We used the same flowers at our wedding, which makes it extra special when he buys them for me. As they started to dry out, my son wanted to pull at the petals. I let him have a few of them and thought how fun it would be to make something with them. Since he loves playing pretend as a knight, dragon, king, tooth fairy, vet, etc. I thought why not make a spring fairy crown for his adventures. He was really excited and helped me create it.

What you’ll need:

  • Mod Podge or similar decoupage glue
  • Cardstock or cardboard
  • Template like here or create your own as I did
  • Roses (any color) dried
  • Ribbon (Michaels has a good selection of ribbon)
  • Paintbrush or foam brush
  • Hole punch
  • Ruler (optional)

Let’s make it!

The first thing I did was draw out the fairy crown shape. I grabbed a piece of cardstock and drew three points to create the crown and then cut it out. You could make two crowns out of one sheet by drawing even zig-zags down the middle and then cutting along that line. You can also purchase or find a free template for a crown on places like Pinterest or Etsy. Then I pulled apart the petals and made them into small pieces. You can really decide how big or small you want to leave them. They were all different sizes for ours. Then I added the decoupage to a section and places rose petals over it. It’s okay if you don’t cover it completely. You can always go back and add more to any places that are barer. It would also be fun to use colored card stock if you want to add more color to it.

After you fill the whole crown with roses, let them dry. I did not cover the top of the roses with decoupage (expect ones that got stuck to it), so it didn’t take that long to dry. Lastly, you will want to get a hole puncher and punch a hole on both sides. Add a fun ribbon and tie it in the back.

Time to play!

Now it’s time to have some fun! These would be great to use any flower with, though if you pick wildflowers please leave enough for the pollinators. This crown also fits my head and would be rad for adults to also dress up with them. I would love to know if you make these and if you used different flowers.

If you are looking to add more magic to your life, you can check out my short story The Shadows, which is based in the fairy realm. It is a dark fantasy tale and one that will go along with a novel I am working on called, The Curse In Howling Meadows. “Luckily, for her, the collector saw his wings like the one piece of his body that made him whole.”
